Pluggnb is a crazy blend of styles. “Plug” music started making it’s rounds in Atlanta with the likes of Polo Boy Shawty (s/o DJ), one of the initial forefathers of Plug production and one of the greatest producers I’ve get to see work. This melding of Atlanta’s grind hard, trap music with the melodic structures, feelings and inflections of RnB, creating a completely new genre, leading to some of SoundCloud’s classics like “Gassed Up” by Nebu Kiniza. Music that can float while also being grounded. Both elegant and hard hitting.

Andre Bugatti is one of New Zealand’s chief wavemakers. Everything about him, from his sound, his videos, even his landing page (which has been established at one of the best [by me lmao]) oozes his influence. His latest track, “YACHTY” is the proof that Bugatti is one of one when it comes to executing the creative vision that permeates his DNA.
Self produced and self shot, “YACHTY” takes us on a night out with shorty (gender neutral term) and provides the perfect visual accompaniment to the music. Almost exclusively (or edited to make it seem as if it was shot) on camcorder, giving those feelings of date night. Equal parts fun, equal parts intimate. The music is the same way, with the high point being Bugatti’s heavenly, above the clouds-esque vocals, wielding them like a modern day siren from myth. His production is nothing to sneeze at either. Bugatti’s ability to create his own ecosystem and use is as his own big playground is what makes his collective product & vision so cohesive.
To be honest, I’ve slept on New Zealand. Both as a country and as an entertainment hub. Granted, American’s have the self-absorbed notion that we’re the center of the universe, so of course I’d sleep on the smaller of the Oceanic nations, but I’m seeing the motions, especially in music. Don’t overlook New Zealand or the sounds coming out from the island. There’s something in the water…
